The role of the General Secretariat for the Olympic Utilization

The special division of the Ministry of Culture known as the "General Secretariat for the Olympic Games 2004", which was established and staffed to provide coordination and support for the Olympic preparation, has now been renamed the "General Secretariat for the Olympic Utilization".

The General Secretariat is supervised by the Minister of Culture. Supervision relates to its overall operation and activities.

The task of the General Secretariat is to promote utilization of the Olympic legacy in both its tangible and intangible forms, to coordinate all activities which seek to promote and advance the classical Olympic Ideals and values, accompanying them in Greece and abroad, to develop and provide services and activities directly or indirectly associated with protecting and utilising the tangible and intangible legacy of the Olympic Games in Greece.

Moreover, the General Secretariat also ensures that the terms and conditions, under which operating licences for the Olympic Venues are issued, are observed and imposes the requisite sanctions where these are breached, while also being responsible for monitoring the sports infrastructure scheme.
